FULGHUM INDUSTRIES HISTORY

Since: 1956

Industry: Forest Products Machinery

Location: Wadley, GA

Business Type: Manufacturing

Business Market: World Wide

For nearly seventy years, Fulghum Industries has provided quality equipment to the forest products industry. Our organization has endeavored to meet the needs of the forest products market by constantly paying attention to detail, quality and innovations in technology. Our first product, the rosserhead debarker, was the result of a perceived need in the lumber industry for low production. This simple machine has forever changed the operation of sawmills and pulp mills alike by providing economical furnish from what was once waste.

Soon after the first rosserhead, Fulghum realized the industry's need for a high quality chipper. This resulted in the first diversification of Fulghum's product line. Today, Fulghum chippers are recognized worldwide as among the very best in the industry. In the early years, continued product development resulted in the introduction of a succession of saws, screens, conveyors and loaders.

In the mid-seventies, Fulghum recognized a need to revamp its product line. This heralded the development and manufacture of the Fulghum drum debarker and log handling crane.

From this beginning our organization has grown to provide a diverse product line including equipment ranging in size and purpose from forty-eight-inch chippers to one hundred eighty-foot radius log handling cranes. Through the years our face has changed, but our commitment to quality and customer service has remained.

Our attempts to expand and innovate are yet to stop. Along with updates in our product line, Fulghum has been keenly aware of concept evaluation and testing. In 1965, Fulghum was among the first to recognize the need for remote chipping facilities. This requirement was met by a succession of early experimental concepts that developed into the Fulghum Satellite Chip Mill. Examples of these systems are now in operation for such widely known organizations as Georgia Pacific, WestRock, Weyerhaeuser, Domtar, Nelson Pine Industries (New Zealand), International Paper, and Daiken (New Zealand), among others.

Fulghum's contribution to the industry in the mid to late 1970s was the conceptualization, development and eventual supply of tree-length chipping systems to the industry, examples of which are now operating for Amcel (Brazil), Packaging Corporation of America, Rayonier, International Paper, Georgia Pacific, and Price Companies to name a few.

The Fulghum 45 ton log crane is our latest effort to expand our offerings to the forest products industry. This crane, combined with our 14' drum debarker and 120" 14 knife chipper, and 144" 10 knife chipper will introduce a higher production system incorporating the same Fulghum standards and economies realized in our time tested systems.

To keep pace with the ever evolving product line of Fulghum, our production and management facilities have also been updated. In 1983 Fulghum undertook the expansion of its facilities by doubling production, engineering and administrative areas. Today as always, Fulghum Industries stands committed to providing the finest degree of goods and services to the international forest products industry.

Today, Fulghum Industries not only provides equipment and systems, but complete consulting, engineering, fabrications, installation, and start-up, along with service and parts. In fact, Fulghum tailors each job to the customer's needs, whether it is around the corner or around the world, and provides the level of assistance best suited to each individual situation.

When considering Fulghum's flexibility and capabilities, it should come as no surprise that we are now engineering our 99th complete chipping system. Today, on the woodyard, satellite locations and, sawmills, Fulghum is the name managers associate with quality, dependability and credibility more than any other.
